Important Update Regarding Checks
Due to an increase in mailbox thefts and fraudulent check washing* in our area, the credit union will no longer be cashing checks for non-members. What does this mean? If you write a personal check from your credit union account or give a credit union official check to an individual(s) that is not a credit union member, the individual(s) will not be able to come into the credit union and get cash for the check. The individual(s) will have to bring the check to their own financial institution to deposit or cash. As always, we encourage you to monitor your account(s) on a regular basis and contact the credit union immediately if you notice any suspicious activity at 860-253-4780.
*Check washing is the process of erasing details from checks to allow them to be rewritten, usually for criminal purposes such as fraudulent withdrawals from the victim's credit union or bank account.
Scam/Fraud Alerts
It has come to our attention that there are fraudulent scams going around calling people stating they are from their financial institution. The fraudsters can change the number on the caller id to look like it’s the financial institution calling. Please be careful, when in doubt DO NOT give any information to the caller and contact the credit union directly at 860-253-4780 or 800-749-8305 or stop in.
There has also been an increase in ATM fraud in our local area. Please remember to stay alert and check for skimming devices and/or any apparent damage before using ATM machines.
Here are some examples of skimmers and how to protect your information.
